The Olympic Torch will pass close to the school as it progresses through Swindon via Kingshill and Bath Road on the 23rd May at 1.00pm. To enable our students to have the opportunity to experience this unique celebration we intend to restructure the timetable for the day so that they can watch the spectacle over lunch time.

6th Form Free School Application Update |
|
Following submission of our bid to secure Post – 16 provision earlier in the year I can now confirm that we have been invited to interview with the Department for Education on May 16th, to discuss our proposals in more detail. Whilst this is good news it does not in itself mean that we have secured 6th form status and there is a good deal still to be done this term : The DfE have informed us that decisions will be made during the Summer Term.
All members of the Commonweal community will I hope be pleased to note that our parental demand surveys – conducted with parents of students in all years 5 – 11 – yielded a positive response of over 90%. I would like to thank you for your overwhelming support in this matter and I will update you further as and when there are developments.

As you will no doubt be aware we will soon be celebrating the Royal Diamond Jubilee, and in recognition of such an additional Bank Holiday has been granted. Since this falls within the half term break, all Swindon schools have been given permission to take the final day of the Summer term in lieu of this extra day. As a result I write to inform you that school will now close for students at noon on Thursday July 19th, rather than on Friday July 20th.
I trust this will not inconvenience you too much .
Details of the arrangements for the start of the Autumn Term 2012 will be mailed to you later this term.
Best wishes and thanks for your continued support.

We have recently carried out a review of the current PE kit at Commonweal asking students for their views and opinions on the current kit and any new ideas for moving forward if any.
The new PE Kit retains the current royal blue colour but moves closer in line with the whole school uniform. The T-shirt comes in both fitted and normal cut tops. The ‘outdoor tops’ are more suitable and allow additional clothing for Year 9, 10 and 11. Students will also have the option of tracksuit bottoms for outdoor winter activities (no leggings) All the garments are made of new breathable, wick fabric which remove sweat and maintain heat.

We are delighted that this year’s leavers have done both themselves and the school proud in terms recording our best ever GCSE Exam results.
Whilst provisional at this stage we can report that :
65% of the year group obtained 5 or more A* - C grades including English & Maths

A huge thanks also to all staff who helped make this impressive achievement possible.
