Haiti Appeal - Fab Four CD Single
Tuesday, 02 February 2010 17:55

Haiti PosterThe Commonweal School released a CD single on Friday 29th January 2010 in order to raise funds for the Haiti Disaster Appeal.

Josie Williams, the school’s community arts development officer was the inspiration and the driving force. “As a performing arts school we have a lot of talented students and four girls in particular in Yr 11 who have absolutely cracking voices. I have nicknamed them the Fab Four!

The CD and the concert that launced the single was a great way to raise funds for the appeal and also to inspire younger students to take up singing solo. The head teacher held a non uniform Haiti fund raising day so it made perfect sense to launch and sell the CD on that day and also to give the girls a platform to perform on the school stage during the lunch period.

CD's are available now from the finance office; minimum donation £1.

Calendar Changes
Monday, 18 January 2010 13:49

Dear Parents/Carers,

As a result of recent school closures due to severe weather conditions we have decided to make a number of changes to the calendar for the Spring Term 2010, in an attempt to claw back some of the valuable curriculum time lost.

Consequently :
  1. The Teacher Development Day scheduled for January 22nd  will revert to a normal school day – we used one of the ‘closed’ days to complete work planned for this day

  2. The Review Days scheduled for February 5th & 12th have been cancelled; these two Fridays will now operate as normal school days

  3. We have arranged for an additional Tutor/Parent Evening on Monday March 15th from 3.30pm – 6pm : this will provide Tutors with an opportunity to review with parents the progress of selected students only. Invitations will be sent out closer to the date. We will also use this time to work with identified groups of Year 11 students.

  4. Year 11 students will still take part in the Bright Futures workshop on February 12th during the school day although for the remainder of the day they will attend lessons as normal.

May I take this opportunity of thanking you for your support during what has been a very difficult and frustrating period weather - wise. In the event of further severe weather please be assured that we will do all we can to keep school open. Nevertheless, if the site is not fit for purpose, or a majority of staff are unable to get in, it may be necessary to make contingency arrangements. In which case, please look out for updates on the website and also listen to BBC Radio & Heart FM. All scheduled exams will take place !

Assuming that weather conditions are okay students should adjust their uniform appropriately; that is return to normal footwear and outer garments.
Yours sincerely,

Keith Defter
Headteacher
