GCSE Exam Results 2018

Congratulations are due to our Year 11s.  After two years of new courses, more demanding assessments, more challenging content and a much increased number of exams they have done themselves proud. In the face of unprecedented intellectual challenges and tests of their resilience they have excelled in their GCSE results.

Commonweal’s commitment to academic excellence is undimmed and students have achieved excellent grades. Between them Year 11 received over 50 of the coveted new Grade 9s.  Especially notable performances included Joe Kennedy who achieved 6 grade 9s and 2 grade 8s and Felix Bowyer and Emily Pont who each scored 5 grade 9s and 3 grade 8s, amongst many others.

Students achieved excellent results across the curriculum.  Grades in Combined Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, English, Computer Science, Geography, French and numerous other academic subjects were very strong.  In addition Commonweal’s on-going commitment to a broad curriculum led to equally strong results in other areas including PE and the Performing Arts.

As a diverse and inclusive community, Commonweal students are celebrating success in many different forms. Students having achieved their potential in different ways.  Provisionally 62% achieved at least 5 grade 4s including English and Maths and 40% achieved at least 5 grade 5s including English and Maths.  Students have received grades that represent excellent progress and reward for a great deal of hard work.  From grade 9s to entry level certificates, students have been rewarded for their endeavour.

It is noteworthy that amongst the significant number of SEND students with Education, Health & Care Plans 60% achieved the benchmark of a grade 4 in GCSE English Language and 50% in Maths. Commonweal’s commitment to achievement for all continues.

Finally, I’d like to say a big thank you to all the staff who taught and supported Year 11 and helped them to meet this unprecedented challenge so well.”
