The Commonweal School is committed to providing a planned programme of careers education, information, advice and guidance for all students in Years 7-13. Our aim is to support students at various stages of progression and transition throughout their time at the school. The CEIAG program adheres to the principle of independent advice and guidance given to students in accordance with the statutory responsibility placed on schools.
Within the school curriculum there is a wide range of activities to support careers and work related learning. Various events are held as well as collapsed timetable ‘futures’ days and lessons. One-to-one careers interviews with Sarah White, our Level 6 School Careers Advisor are available to all students from Year 7. She provides impartial and personalised information, advice and guidance, about the range of education and training options that are most likely to help our students achieve their ambitions. As a school, we endeavour to facilitate as many student/ employer encounters as possible. As such, the school is part of the Swindon Enterprise Adviser Network and we are working closely with our Enterprise Adviser from Barclays Bank. We also have good links with many other local employers, independent advice services and Universities to promote impartiality including: Swindon Borough Council, Intel, Network Rail, Barclays Bank, Nationwide, STEM NET, Marines, Inspiring the Future, Founders for Schools, Royal Agricultural University and Bath Spa University.
STEP Up Careers Booklets are delivered during tutor time and careers related lessons are included within Social Science. Good quality careers resources are available to all students via the school website, library, careers office in C6 building, C6 careers library, poster and leaflet displays. The school has subscribed to two careers websites (E-clips and Job Explorer Database) to help students decide on and research careers and the qualifications needed for them.
