We feel that a uniform instils pride, a sense of identity and support for the ethos of The Commonweal Academy.
It helps to support positive behaviour and discipline and protects children from social pressures to dress in a particular way. I’m sure you’ll agree, when worn correctly it instils a sense of pride and belonging and sets an appropriate tone for a positive working environment.
Therefore to ensure that your son/daughter’s uniform is correct please use the following recommendations as a guideline for September 2012.
Please note that any item not mentioned above is not considered to be school uniform and should not be worn to school.
Make-up is actively discouraged but if worn must be discrete. Any excessive make up should be removed.
Inappropriate uniform will be deal with as a disciplinary matter may include students being sent home. If this is the case parents will be contacted. If parents cannot be contacted students may be referred to the Safety Net.
Polo Shirts are for the Summer Term only
The trousers and skirts etc, displayed on the Trutex site for our Academy show styles that we strongly recommend should ideally be worn as uniform. Trutex can supply all sizes for boys and girls. However, if you wish to purchase from another supplier/source, then it must be on a like-for-like basis, as those items seen on the Trutex website. Please note that what a shop/ supplier might market as School uniform may not be of the style or type required by the Commonweal School.
Please note that the following items are not part of the school uniform & therefore should not be worn to school.
- Leggings of any type.
- Tight fitting trousers or skirts.
- Chino or jeans type trousers, or those using studs/displaying zips.
- Short skirts.
- Footwear that goes over and above the ankles, i.e. boots/basketball/converse type.
- Non-uniform sweaters & cardigans.
- Outer garments that can be classed as hoodies.
- Excessive jewellery or makeup.
- Frilly or bright coloured socks worn over tights
As a parent/carer your assistance in enforcing the uniform policy will be gratefully received. Students should not need to lose valuable time away from their education to address situations regarding any uniform issues if they are correctly attired and presented.
If there should be any concerns relating to uniform, please do not hesitate to contact your son/daughter’s Tutor or Head of House.
