Commonweal Sixth Form students and staff are celebrating an outstanding first set of A Level results which demonstrate that the Sixth Form has been successful in achieving its goals of helping students to gain high levels of academic qualification and progress onwards to further academic studies. Students have responded to the high standards of teaching with enormous commitment and hard work and this is reflected in these results.

Levels of attainment were outstanding with 58% of A Level grades at A*- B and, a very impressive, 100% at A*-E with 72% of students achieving an A*-B grade. These very pleasing figures should ensure that, in comparison with previous data, the Sixth Form has achieved well above national and local performance figures.

Stand out subject performance included (% A*-C): Anthropology 100%, Biology 88%, Business Studies 100%, Chemistry 71%, Computing 100%, English Lit 100%, Environmental Science 100%, French 100%, Geography 100%, German 100%, History (MEM) 100%, Law 100%, Maths 100%, PE 100%, Philosophy and Ethics 100%, Physics 100% and Psychology 88%.

Keith Defter, Headteacher, said, “We are delighted with the achievement of our students and particularly the number of students achieving the highest grades. Our goal has always been to provide the highest standards of education at 16-18 and make a significant contribution to increasing the number of students from the Swindon area progressing into higher education – these results represent a significant step towards those goals.”

Notable individual performances included Jack Davis (A*, A, A, A,) who will be study Maths at The University of Bath, Olivier Fischer (A*, A, A, A,) who will be studying Computer Science at The University of Manchester and Kitty Borland, who at AS level, achieved A,A,A.

Our Yr 13 students now leave us for the next exciting chapter in their lives and we wish them the very best. Our Yr 12 students have already laid very solid foundations to ensure that they achieve their goals this time next year. As always, our commitment remains to work with a very broad range of students to ensure that they are able to achieve above and beyond their own expectation. We would like to thank all parents and carers for their support during the challenging two years of A Level and BTEC study.
