An opportunity has arisen for a Cover Supervisor to join this co-educational school in the attractive Old Town area of Swindon from January 2009. We are an oversubscribed, forward looking Performing Arts school, which seeks to provide a high level of support and professional development for all staff. We are committed to realising our aim, which is to be known as a provider of high quality education for all students, achieved by focusing on teaching and learning.

Working within a team of Cover Supervisors you will supervise classes when a teacher is absent, assist with exam invigilation, accompany staff on school trips and complete administrative tasks where appropriate. You will need to be well organised, self confident, and smartly dressed with good communication skills. A training programme will be provided for this very interesting and varied role.

The post is permanent and will be 37 hours per week, term time & training days only. Salary is at Scale 2, from £12,716.94 to £13,413.15 p.a. (pay award pending).

JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Purpose: To work under the guidance of teaching/senior staff and within an agreed system of supervision, to implement agreed work programmes with individuals or groups. To supervise whole classes during the short-term absence of teachers, maintaining good order and keeping students on task.

Key Accountabilities :

        • To cover lessons in the absence of teaching staff, as allocated by the Cover Coordinator or other staff member arranging cover.
        • Supervise and support students ensuring their safety and access to learning, encouraging interaction and engaging all students in activities.
        • Distribute pre set learning activities, assisting the students in undertaking the activities providing the necessary resources as appropriate
        • Promote positive values, attitudes and good student behaviour, dealing promptly with conflict and incidents in line with established policy and encourage students to take responsibility for their own behaviour.
        • Provide objective and accurate feedback and reports as required on student achievement, progress and behaviour following lessons or other activities.
        • To be responsible for carrying out administrative tasks designated by staff in the faculty or faculties to which the staff member is attached.
        • Provide general clerical/administrative support e.g. administer coursework, produce worksheets, invigilate exams.
        • To attend and contribute to regular meetings within the cover team.
        • Accompany staff on school educational visits and work under the direction of the organiser
        • To uphold the school rules and ethos and to observe Health & Safety regulations by maintaining good order in the classroom and ensuring that students tidy up and leave the classroom in good order.
        • Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, behaviour management, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person.
        • To carry out lunch duties

          PERSON SPECIFICATION

        Qualifications/Training

        • Good general level of education to include Maths and English GCSE grade C or above.
        • 2 years experience of working in a classroom environment to support teachers.
        • Have or are willing to obtain Level 2 qualification in Maths & English
