Your PTA helping your community, meeting people and having a good laugh!

It is unusual for a secondary school to have a Parent Teacher Association, let alone one that is so active! Termly meetings are faithfully attended by a good number of parents and smaller committees convene to organise special events. Parents join with teachers to help
at school events (providing refreshments, moving furniture, collecting tickets etc). There are regular activities to involve all the school's friends and the wider local community; quiz nights, craft fairs, murder mystery plays and music evenings have proved popular. One parent, whose own children left the school many years ago, organises evening trips to the West End as well as more local venues. Theatre-goers are collected by coach from outside school, making it a stress-free and economical way of keeping up with the latest shows!

Information about forthcoming events and ways of contributing to the PTAs efforts appears in Commonweal Matters. We all appreciate just how busy life is nowadays, especially with secondary aged children! We always try to involve volunteers in a way that does not commit them to anything arduous or repetitive! If you wouldn't mind giving 'one-off help at our next major event, The Summer Fair, on Saturday July 7 th, please contact our Chairperson, Erica Ford via the school. The school will be 80 years old and this day of celebration will showcase our students in creative performances and workshops. There will be a Staff v Parents and Ex- Students cricket match and a last opportunity to see the extensive school archive (including original plans and deeds, old registers and reports, together with photos) before it all goes to the County Archive office. Perhaps this might be your chance of joining in?

Mrs Erica Ford is Chairman of the PTA
Mrs Sue Mulhall is Secretary and Mrs P Salmond is the Treasurer.
