The Future of Commonweal School

As you are all no doubt aware we have a growing and pressing need to secure funding to rebuild/redevelop Commonweal. The Governing body are certain that the current ad-hoc, piecemeal approach to development and maintenance should be replaced with strategic plan of school building and site development. There are two realistic options that we need to consider:

  • Option 1: A completely new school built within the existing boundary, at a cost c.£25million
  • Option 2: A mixture of refurbishment, redevelopment and rebuild within the existing site boundary, at a cost c.£10million

With the encouragement of local Councillors the Governing Body has written to the Council setting out the advantages and disadvantages of both options based on information currently available to us. We have requested a meeting with the Council to discuss our findings so far and to start working with them to look at how the options could be funded and over what time scales.

The Governing Body will ensure that all stakeholders are kept fully informed of developments and we will use the School website and other mechanisms to seek your views and encourage discussion as we move forward.
